Background

The Professional Skills Course which is part of the curriculum at the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine involves small group sessions, facilitated by senior clinicians. An annual Away Day for both new and existing facilitators is held to provide them with course updates and training.

Brief

Megan Brown who organised the Away Day said: “Our requirements for the event included: one main lecture theatre and the use of two break-out rooms, audio visual equipment and catering.

“As we are part of the University we wanted to use a college and as some delegates were travelling from various places in the region, we also required parking. So our main challenge was to find a venue that was large enough to accommodate approximately 100 delegates and also provide parking – both of which we could do at Murray Edwards College. As part of the programme we needed three separate spaces for our workshops so we used two of the breakout rooms in the Kaetsu Centre and ran the third in the lecture theatre. We also made use of the AV service and catering which were excellent.

Event

“The Conference Team at Murray Edwards College was really professional and extremely helpful. Leading up to the event the communication was fantastic and last minute requests were dealt with without hesitation. The catering staff were also really good and went the extra mile.

“Overall the College was ideally suited for our needs – it was light, spacious and tranquil and many delegates commented on what a great venue it was.

Feedback

“We found the Meet Cambridge service really helpful. Our request was responded to quickly and the venue that was suggested met our needs perfectly. Meet Cambridge also contacted us to ask whether we had chosen one of the venues they had suggested and to see if there was anything else they could do to help. The service was easy to use and saved time – I would definitely recommend it!

“We hold the event in Cambridge as this is where the majority of our clinicians are based, but delegates who come from farther afield are also willing to travel here. It is easy to access and has good transport links into the city. Also, I do think using a college helps to attract people because it is a high quality venue.”
