Background
This Land is a start-up organisation in the construction sector. Based in Histon, close to Cambridge city centre, the company was established in 2017. The organisation has grown very quickly and now employs c. 20 staff. Due to a lack of suitably sized meeting facilities at its office base, it was decided that an off-site meeting venue was require.
Brief
Julia Pergl-Wilson, Operations Manager, said: “Being a start-up organisation, the team are incredibly busy on day-to-day tasks and we identified a need for a two-day team building/communications event with an external facilitator, to allow everyone the opportunity to come together, including those team members that aren’t office-based. It was important to us that this was held in a different location to our offices, to enable the team to be away from their desks without distractions. We wanted a venue close to our office that offered good facilities, and with the option for some outdoor space to allow for breaks in the fresh air.
"I knew about Meet Cambridge from a previous role and contacted them with my requirements. The service is helpful and timesaving, and within a day or two I had several options to choose from.
Event
“We chose Madingley Hall for our event because they offered a competitive Day Delegate Rate and free on-site parking, which was a great advantage. The venue is situated in the countryside yet within striking distance of our offices and offers a beautiful, peaceful environment. This contributed greatly to the success of the day. Some of the content of our meeting was challenging, so having the option to be able to step outside from time-to-time, was an important part of our venue choice.
"The gardens added an extra dimension to the event and were much appreciated by our attendees who welcomed the opportunity to be outside where they could gather thoughts and enjoy headspace.

“The event achieved its core objectives and led to a follow-up, one-day meeting, for which we chose Madingley Hall again. As part of that event, we took advantage of the gardens again for a ‘walk and talk’ session. The team at Madingley Hall were very responsive to our feedback following our first event and I’d definitely use the venue again.”
