Based on a classic design, set in spacious and attractive grounds near the centre of Cambridge, Fitzwilliam College encapsulates a rare blend of history and innovation, living up to its heraldic motto of providing "the best of the old and the new".

The College has free car parking and is easily accessible from all major routes, avoiding the narrow streets of the historic centre. With its purpose-built meeting rooms and bedrooms designed around traditional courts, its history of service and up to date business facilities, the College is a testament to its motto.

You will find all the ambience you expect from a Cambridge College, plus essential state-of-the-art facilities for conferences, meetings, receptions or dinners. Add to this the reputation for fine cuisine and you have everything that can turn an ordinary event into something really special.

Purpose-built meeting rooms for between 10 and 250 delegates and 175 en suite bedrooms Fitzwilliam can cater for residential conferences during vacations for up to 300 delegates.

Located on an attractive 7-acre site stretching between Storey’s Way and Huntingdon Road, Fitzwilliam College is a 10 minute walk from the river at Magdalene Bridge in the centre of Cambridge. It is easily accessible from Junction 13 of the M11 and Junction 32 of the A14, as well as other major road routes and offers free parking for 120 cars.

Fitzwilliam College is proud of its reputation for excellent catering and fine dining. The College’s creative chefs will discuss and provide an array of delicious menus, tailored to match your specific event or private celebration. Friendly and professional staff are on hand to ensure that your event is a relaxed and enjoyable occasion.

The College offers a range of dining rooms to cater for a variety of formal and informal functions. The striking College Hall designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, renowned for its beautiful glass lantern projecting through the tree tops, is ideal for banquets and formal halls for up to 240 guests. The recently refurbished Upper Hall gives an air of sophistication and a contemporary feel to any dinner or event for up to 140 guests, and has the added benefit of dividing into two separate dining spaces for smaller private receptions and dinners (40 – 120).

Private dining is available throughout the year in the Upper Hall and Old SCR, seating a maximum of 35 (Old SCR) and 140 (Upper Hall), and in vacations in the College Dining Hall, seating a minimum of 35 to a maximum of 240.

Fitzwilliam College offers up to 335 on site bedrooms, which include a mix of single and twin ensuite rooms or single semi-ensuite rooms. Bedrooms are located on-site with breakfast served in our striking Dining Hall. All rooms include complimentary toiletries along with a hospitality tray so you can enjoy tea or coffee in your room.

Guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds and should the weather be inclement we have an on-site coffee shop where you can enjoy the view of our gardens with a fresh coffee or warming hot chocolate.

  1. Fitzwilliam College houses the Olisa Library tower, said to be the highest point in Cambridge.
  2. The Chapel was designed by MacCormac Jamieson Prichard to suggest a floating ship.
  3. The College garden is home to a Ginkgo biloba; a primeval species 270 million years old.
  4. The Grove, a beautiful Regency house in the grounds, was occupied by Emma Darwin, wife of Charles Darwin.
