Emmanuel College, founded in 1584 by Sir Walter Mildmay, Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I, is situated in beautiful grounds, with a duck pond and an early Chapel by Sir Christopher Wren. The College has a variety of rooms that can accommodate a wide range of events.

The College's historic buildings are set within courts and immaculate gardens, including the Old Library and Robert Gardner Room, which offer traditional dining spaces; the Queen’s Building provides a tiered theatre, seating up to 110 and two smaller rooms.

Emmanuel is a tranquil and welcoming setting for any event where guests will be inspired as they immerse themselves in the College's beautiful surroundings.

Green Initiatives

  1. The College all recycles suitable materials and responsibly disposes of non-recyclable waste.
  2. The student 'Green Ducks' committee, strives to increase awareness of environmental responsibilities among Fellows, students, staff and guests.
  3. Organic kitchen waste is now processed through an anaerobic digester, which turns it into grey water.
  4. Environmental sustainability is considered in purchasing decisions.

Did You Know?

  1. Emmanuel has some beautiful, unusual trees within its grounds, such as a Dawn Redwood, Oriental Plane and two Chimera trees.
  2. Notable historical alumni include John Harvard, Thomas Young, Edward Welbourne, George Porter, Ronald George Wreyford Norris and Frederick Hopkins.
  3. The stream in Chapman's Garden is a branch of Hobson's Conduit, constructed in 1631 to bring fresh water to Cambridge.
  4. From 1914 - 1919, the War Office used North Court to house officers from the Welsh Fusiliers and "C" Company No.2 Cadet Battalion.
