The bureau for meetings and conferences in Cambridge and the surrounding area is celebrating a successful series of Opendoors events, showcasing venues to local event organisers.

Meet Cambridge, funded by the Cambridge Colleges, has organised six half-days, attended by 52 event organisers from 23 different organisations who were looking for suitable spaces to hold conferences, meetings and dinners.

A total of 19 venues from the Meet Cambridge portfolio supported the initiative – Colleges, hotels and museums – opening their doors for show rounds and providing an opportunity to meet the conference teams. Each event was limited to 12 people to ensure everyone enjoyed a quality experience.

Judith Sloane, Head of Meet Cambridge said: “This is the first Opendoors series since before the pandemic and we were delighted by the positive response from local event organisers.

“Not only did it enable new members of the teams to see first-hand what a wide range of venues we can offer – from traditional Colleges to more contemporary spaces – it also allowed them to view new facilities, meet the conference teams and network with each other.

“We plan to end the 2022 programme on 7th December with an Opendoors event visiting Churchill College and Downing College, but based on the success this year, we plan to organise more events in 2023.”

Rebecca Leam, Communications Coordinator at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy added: “Thank you so much for organising the Meet Cambridge event yesterday. It really gives excellent insight into what is available in Cambridge Uni and the corporate sector. I'm looking forward to the next one already!”
