A Cambridge College is offering a limited number of dates for Summer parties, drinks receptions and team-building days using its innovative events space, close to the heart of the city.

For the last year, Gonville & Caius College has been hosting events of all kinds in Acropolis At Caius, a sophisticated 2,150 sq ft marquee structure located in the attractive gardens of its West Road site, during the refurbishment of some of the College’s kitchen and dining facilities around the Old Courts Main Hall.

Named Acropolis for its intriguing architectural shape and multiple glass sides around its linked hexagonal structures, the events space enjoys unlimited views into the gardens mirroring the open aspect of the ancient citadel located above the city of Athens. Up to 140 can be seated on round tables for dinner, or up to 300 for a drinks reception, BBQ or buffet.

Eve Stupart, Conference & Events Manager at Gonville & Caius said: “Acropolis At Caius has been very popular with our clients who have appreciated its special ambience and suitability for a wide range of events which can encompass the garden.

“As the refurbishment of our regular facilities comes to an end – and we return to our new-look spaces at Old Courts – we have just a few dates left at Acropolis At Caius this Summer.”

Kymab, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company based in Cambridge, held a team-building day at Acropolis At Caius. Andy Gosden, Senior Director, HR said: “Over the years I have used a number of different venues for our events and this one was definitely one of the most successful. It was a lovely day weather-wise and our teambuilding company, BrightVision, was able to set up the activities on the back lawn, out of view behind the tree line, so that it was a surprise to everyone when we went out there.”

The venue also worked well for the annual garden party organised by the Cambridge Commonwealth, European & International Trust for those PhD scholars it supports who remain in Cambridge during the Summer months.

Claire Lambert, the Trust’s Communications Manager, says: “We were delighted with our first garden party for 300 guests at Acropolis At Caius which worked extremely well. The tunnel leading into the main space was used as the entrance and as it was a lovely sunny day, we were able to have the doors into the wonderful gardens wide open for guests to wander around.”

Adjacent Caius buildings include the Cavonius Conference Centre, together with vacation period residential facilities of 170 rooms in Harvey Court and The Stephen Hawking Building with a mix of single, double, and twin bedrooms for party guests wishing to stay overnight.
