Type of Event: Dinner
Group size: 90
Venue: Newnham College
Date: 27 May 2017
At the end of each academic year, the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge holds a dinner to celebrate the year’s successes. In 2017 it chose to hold the event at Newnham College.
Charlotte Jackson who organised the event said: “ Our requirements were that the dinner had to be held on a Saturday and that we needed wheelchair access to the main Hall.
“Our main challenge was finding a venue that would take us during the exam period and we couldn’t wait until later as most of the department spends the Summer away on fieldwork. We also had budgetary constraints and needed to keep the cost per person in line with our resources.
“We decided to hold the drinks reception in the gardens at Newnham, followed by a three-course dinner in the Main Hall. The team was extremely helpful ahead of the event in sorting out a menu and also on the day – we had to make some last-minute changes and the catering and conference staff were very accommodating in dealing with our requests.
“Meet Cambridge was an excellent service in that it saved us a lot of time. Previously we had been emailing individual colleges and dealing directly with their conference staff. Once we signed up to the Meet Cambridge service we had much more success.
“Our event went really well and I would highly recommend a dinner at a Cambridge College – the settings are beautiful and the food delicious.”
